Melvia Leilani Kalawaia, 77, of Kula, passed away on August 13, 2015 at her residence. She was born on August 13, 1938 in Kula. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2015 at Ballard Family Mortuary, services will begin at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, August 29, 2015, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Holy Ghost Church in Kula, Mass will begin at 10 a.m. and burial for Melvia and her husband, Earl Victor Kalawaia Sr., who passed away on September 4, 2001, will follow in the Holy Ghost Church Cemetery. Lunch to follow at Malulani located at 7984 Kula Highway, Kula. Melvia retired from Wailuku Elementary School where she was a teacher. She was also a teacher at Christ the King School. Melvia was a member of Hale O Na Ali’i O Hawaii. She was also active in Holy Ghost and Our Lady Queen of Angels Churches. She is survived by her daughters, Michelle (Byron) Kai, and Earlyne (David) Kalawaia-King; sons, Earl (Chereen) Kalawaia, Jr., and Mark (Lisa Ann) Kalawaia; 8 grandchildren, Heidi Cravalho, Shelby Kalawaia, Lani Kai, Kailani Kai, LJ Kalawaia, Logan Kalawaia, Madison Kalawaia, and Makenzie Kalawaia; and 5 great-grandchildren, Kehaulani Ramos, Kahiaulani Ramos, Kanoelani Ramos, Amelia Berrios, and Ajynn Trilles. |
