Extract translated from Portuguese: On the first of May of the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine, in this church of São Bráz of Arco da Calheta, District of Calheta, Diocese of Funchal, I have solemnly baptised an individual of the female gender who I have christened as Luiza, who was born in this village at eleven in the evening on the twenty fourth of April the same year. Legitimate daughter (first of this name) of Francisco da Silva das Fontes, farmer, and Rosa de Jesus, housewife, who were born in this village where they were married and are parishioners and residents of Pinheiro. Granddaughter on her father's side of Antonio da Silva and Luisa de Jesus, and on her mother's side of João da Sousa and Maria de Jesus. The godfather was Antonio da Sousa, laborer and the godmother was Maria da Silva de Abreu Jesus, both married and residents of Magdalena do Mar, County of Ponta do Sol, and who are my personal acquaintences. And for the record I executed this certificate in duplicate which, after being read and confirmed in the presence of the godparents, was signed by me but not by the godparents, who cannot write. Era ut Supra. The priest, Ricardo José de Franca Doria
