Extract translated from Portuguese: On the twenty third of August of the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight, in this church of São Bráz of Arco da Calheta, District of Calheta, Diocese of Funchal, I have solemnly baptised an individual of the female gender who I have christened as Vicencia, who was born in this village at two in the morning on the seventeenth of the same month and year. Legitimate daughter (first of this name) of João da Silva do Pomar, farmer and native of this parish, and Luiza d' Abreu, domestic servant, native of [Canhas?], county of Ponta do Sol. They are parishoners of this parish and residents of Pinheiro. Granddaughter on her father's side of Antonio da Silva and Maria de Jesus, and on her mother's side of Ignacio Gonsalves and Maria d' Abreu. The godfather was Francisco Viera de Luz, married, and Maria de Jesus, married, residents of Pinheiros who are my personal acquaintences.
