Baptisms, Parish of São Brás, Arco da Calheta, Calheta. Number 21, 1864. Extract translated from Portuguese: On the eighteenth of March of the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty four, in this church of São Bráz of Arco da Calheta, County of Calheta, Diocese of Funchal, I have solemnly baptised an individual of the female gender who I have christened as Carolina, born in this village at nine in the morning on the eighth day of the same month and year. Legitimate daughter (second of this name) of João da Silva das Fontes and Lourença de Jesus, farmers, born in this village where they were married, parishioners and residents of Pinheiro. Granddaughter on her father's side of Antonio da Silva, native of this parish, and Luisa de Jesus, native of [Cauhay or Canhay?], County of Ponta do Sol; and on her mother's side of Francisco da Silva das Fontes and Clara de Jesus. The godfather was João da Silva, unmarried farmer, resident of Pinheiro, and the godmother was Maria de Jesus, widow, resident of Florencas, who are my personal acquaintences. And for the record I executed this certificate in duplicate which, after being read and confirmed in the presence of the godparents, was signed by me but not by the godparents, who cannot write. Era ut Supra. The priest, Antonio d Abreu Macedo
